The Fires Shall Burn Empty The Fires Shall Burn

Post  The Drakin Wed Mar 07, 2012 12:00 am

The drakin ride up to the camps that they were told about by the leader of orcs at the conference, there were humans to be slaughtered and cities to burn and these drakin warrior were more than ready an eager to kill humans and rip apart the civilization of man. With every breath they took the hatred and fire within burned ever stronger and brighter, they hated humans and they would take great pleasure and seeing their villages burn as their people lay dead and dying on the ground or running, screaming their pain to the world. The time for the drakin's revenge has come.

The orc encampment was nestled securely near the sheer edge of a modest-sized cliff looking over the grassy plains below. It was made up of about a dozen buildings and was enclosed by a wall of sharpened, wooden pikes. It was difficult to see from the grassland, but easy to spot from the mountainside. At a barricade on the path before the gate, the Drakin were stopped by some hostile guards who did not look very happy to see them.

"Are you the Drakin sent by our High Chieftain?"

The drakin stopped at the orc guards and one of the Drakin stepped off their mounts which looked to be dog like scaled creatures and he stood before an orc, matching it in height and with the added imposing features that were his wings looks as if to be slightly larger though he was most assuredly not. The drakin nodded smiling as much as possible though he disliked being where he was "Yes, My name is Kunia NightStalker. We were sent here to get information about Human settlements in the area?"

The orc grunted inhospitably.

"Come with me." He lead the Drakin a few yards further up the path, and called for the wooden gates of the encampment to be open. They were swung open from within, and the guards led the Drakin inside. Dozens of orcs who were minding their business throughout the encampment, either training, patrolling, smithing, or otherwise going about their duties, stopped and glared up at the Drakin. They were clearly not used to having outsiders in their camp. Some of them made low, growling comments and others looked as if they were barely holding themselves back from charging forward and attacking.

"Boss!!" The guard shouted at the door of the longhouse in the center of the encampment. "Your guests are here." He turned back to them, scowling, and waiting for the Boss to come out and greet the Drakin.

The drakin growled slightly and flared thier wings ever so slightly as thier scales hardened and thier hands became slightly clawed, preparing to defend themselves against the orcs if the need arose, though they hoped it wouldnt they were more than likely grossly out numbered. They waited for their host here to come and meet them, they hoped that would calm the other orcs enough that they wouldnt want to attack the drakin.

The Boss appeared in the doorway of the longhouse. He towered at nearly eight feet tall, with clunky iron and leather armor and a massive, jagged greatsword strapped across his back. He was covered in scars and his hair was top-knotted tightly and left to hang down wildly down to his back, with the rest of his scalp shaved in sharp, cropped patterns.

"Drakin," he grunted, "the High Chieftain has sent you. Come inside." As he turned and gestured for the Drakin to follow him into the longhouse, the other orcs quieted down and went about their business, keeping a close eye on their unwelcome guests.

The drakin followed quickly, their mounts staying right outside the longhouse. As they entered Kunia asked "Your men didnt seem to find the presence of Drakin in one of thier camps acceptable. Do we offend the orcs in some way?" he tried to stay as polite as possible, he personally didnt like orcs much. Thier taste for blood of any kind perturbed him.

"We don't get many visitors," the Boss replied bluntly, "and even fewer are invited."

Inside the longhouse, there were some leather mats and animal skins laid out to make the flooring. There were a few pieces of crude wooden furniture - tables, chairs, torches - but nothing elaborate, aside from a few racks of finely made orcish weaponry lining some of the walls. The Boss' chair, larger and more finely decorated than others, sat in the back at the center, with two guards. There were a few other orcs, warriors and servants, going about their business in the longhouse.

the drakin looked around and nodded, Kunia followed quickly behind the Boss and asked "So, when the drakin go in will the orcs be coming with us?" He looked to see any maps or anything they would have scattered around, his memory was amazing he could study and memorize a map incredibly quickly.

"Other way around," the Boss grinned, "you'll be coming with us." There was a map pinned to the main table in the center with an orcish dagger. It was very roughly drawn, little more than representative scribbles of the landscape, but it laid out a basic plan. An arrow was drawn down the mountain through a narrow valley pass, towards the village - marked on the map with a crude skull.

"Enough questions. Be ready when we leave. When the sun touches the peaks, we ride." The Boss gestured out the doorway of the longhouse, where the sun was rising up over the plains.

Kunia looked over the map quickly and memorized it though it was so crude and poorly fashioned but he said nothing an nodded to the boss, grinning back "Alright, ive been waiting to burn humans for a good amount of my life, i can wait just a while longer i suppose." Him and the drakin with him stepped out, got on thier mounts and waited, talking amongst themselves unless the boss wanted anything else.

The Drakin would be able to see that many of the warriors around the encampment were preparing for battle. They were sharpening their weapons, equipping their gear, talking and cheering and roaring with anticipation. Some of them sparred for training, others brawled to curb their insatiable urge for violence. They could hardly wait to get moving, as soon as the Boss gave the order to advance.

The drakin watched them and they smiled, they were starting to feel a bit at home among these orcs. Kunia hoped after they saw the drakin fight they would be respect them instead of treat them like outsiders that had no reason to be here. The drakin didnt have weapons on them nor armor, even to the orcs it would seem insane. The drakin were going to fight bare handed and in nothing but leather armor pants and thier scales.

The Fires Shall Burn Empty Re: The Fires Shall Burn

The orcs and the Drakin had much in common. Although the encampment had several fully armored warriors in heavy plate, most of them wore light little armor - some of them, very little at all - but all of them carried weaponry, ranging from spiked fist weapons to heavy warhammers and battleaxes. They weren't necessarily happy to have the Drakin along, but for now, they tolerated them.

After a short amount of time, the Boss emerged from the longhouse. The orcs grunted and chanted as he walked out, then he held up a clenched fist and they began violently roaring. The encampment rattled and the ground shook with the sound of battle. Not a word needed to be said - the orcs began to move out, marching and clambering together in poorly organized ranks as they rushed out from the gates. Their kodos were stabled for them outside, and about a dozen of them mounted and rode alongside the footsoldiers. Orcish women, children, and the warriors staying behind for defense cheered on their warriors.

The Boss led the ranks, and gestured to the Drakin as they marched out. "Hurry up, if you're coming! Blood is on the horizon!"

The Fires Shall Burn Empty Re: The Fires Shall Burn

Post  The Drakin Wed Mar 21, 2012 12:15 pm

The drakin roared loud, it sounded like actual dragon angered and stirred into battle. It may impress the orcs a little bit. The drakin rode their mounts incredibly fast, within what seemed like seconds the drakin were along side the boss. The mounts going a bit slower to keep pace with the large kodo beasts. Kunia smirked a bit looking at the huge lizards. He then asked the boss "So, when we get there whats the plan? We have any sort of strategy to what we are going to do? Or are we just going to have some fun?" He was serious but the smile on his face was bloodthirsty, this drakin was a warrior, a killer. He was made for battle shedding the blood of his enemies was what he was made for. The other drakin with him seemed to have the same demeanor, they were of dark black and other incredibly dark colors and many of their horns were black and slightly more twisted then that of the other drakin clans, these were dark drakin.

About fifty orcs were in the war party, and they rode and swarmed down the mountainside. The village wasn't within eyesight yet, but they would be there shortly. The orcs were surprisingly quick for a good-sized force, and most of them jogged to keep a good pace and warm themselves up for the bloodshed ahead.

The Boss' officers kept the others in line. One of them cracked a heavy flail in the air each time someone slowed down too far or fell out of line.

"Keep up, Drakin!"

The drakin definatley kept their pace and were at the front of the pack the entire time. When it was within eye sight the drakin smiled and rode a bit faster until they made it too a ridge where they stopped and looked back at the orcs whom they had passed out now.

Some wooden walls appeared in the distance, with watchtowers. The lookouts of course saw the approaching war party, which made no attempt to camouflage itself whatsoever. As soon as they were spotted, two of the kodo riders at the back drew forth massive mallets for the drums mounted within the saddles on either side of their mounts. They began drumming a heavy war beat, intimidating the humans as they began to charge.

The Boss' battlecry rang out above the thunder, ground-shaking drums at the back.

The drakin charged down the hill with the orcs and few of them holding their hands to the side as a ball of fire formed in them, when they launched these fire balls at the human they looked incredibly like the flaming stones humans would hurl from their war machines. They would either hit the tower or the actual guard but either way they would hopefully bring the tower down so they wouldnt be as much of a problem for the raiding party.

There were two wooden artillery units positioned at the sides of the raiding party on wheeled support platforms. They parked them at strategic locations as the warriors advanced, and a few orcs staying behind hurled large piles of jagged stones wrapped in wooden kindling and schrapnel, set alight, that began to rain down fiery destruction on the settlement's walls.

The wooden village walls would be hit by the large rocks and, although they didn't initially do enough damage to devastate the defenses, the thousands of flaming splinters of wood that were also launched got embedded into the ground, the treetops, the walls, and even the defending soldiers on the barricades. The wall wouldn't go alight yet, but the orcs had plenty more ammunition, and they intended to bring the wall down in flames and smoke.

The warriors charged ahead, going towards the gates. Some human soldiers would start to come forth, trying to hold the main gates, but they were still a good distance before the forces would meet in melee. Many humans had bows or crossbows and already began opening fire, but the orcs' only ranged weaponry was the artillery. The warriors went in with only the armor on their backs and their weapons, held high and proud, ready to strike.

The Fires Shall Burn Empty Re: The Fires Shall Burn

Within the walls was someone the Drakin would be interested in, someone who possessed the power of a dragon. They would undoubtedly be able to sense the power of their own kin nearby but it felt as if a dragon was present. This would be an interesting turn of events for the Drakin.

Within a small shed-like building with only one window she peered out to look upon the madness. Soldiers rushed by to barricade the walls and gates, smoke could be seen in the sky and bits of fiery wood could be seen splintering into the air as the walls were continuously damaged. The window peered toward the gates that were being assaulted so she could see everything within the view of her home.

As kunia and the drakin rushed forward on their mounts they would sense the blood of a dragon and kunia shouted to his men "Are any of the surviving dragons slumbering in this area!?"

One of his men shouted back "No sir! None in this area from what I've studied!"

Kunia then got a determined look and shouted orders to his men "i don't care what you need to do! Kill anyone in your way, burn anything in your way, rip this place apart! FIND WHATEVER WE'RE SENSING!"

They sped ahead of the orcs now not caring about them anymore, they had a larger objective now. They dodged most of the crossbow bolts, of few of their mounts went down but they quickly got off and started using their long ranged magik to combat the archers and crossbowmen. Once they reached the gates they all used their fire ball magik and destroyed the gate splintering it and the explosion disorienting the humans around it, they got off their mounts and let them tear humans apart as they advanced in the direction of the blood they sensed. Killing anyone who got in their way.

The Fires Shall Burn Empty Re: The Fires Shall Burn

Post  Orsinnar Sun Apr 08, 2012 5:55 pm

The tactics of the orcs were simple, perhaps even crude, but extremely effective. Large chunks of the walls started to crumble down and topple inwards towards the buildings; many of them burst into flames and started spreading the blaze into the village. The artillery launched again, bringing down the gate towers, and sending dozens of archers, crossbowmen, and swordsmen near the gates either hurtling down towards the ground or into the fiery debris of their walls.

The first wave of orcs were the kodo riders; they barely fit through the gate, and many of them instead charged through weak points in the walls, busting down the thick wooden planks with their thunderous stampede. Some orcs dismounted once inside, but most of them charged their kodos down the streets. Some mowed down ranks of human soldiers by plowing through them and swinging massive battle-axes or warhammers while their kodos trampled anyone unlucky enough to get in the way. Others rode through with incendiary torches and pouches of flammable liquid to cause more havoc - they poured it down the roads or tossed it into the buildings, hurling the brightly flaming torches afterwards to set huge sections of the village alight. Many humans, soldiers and citizens alike, were caught and burnt to death. It was complete mayhem within the village now.

Her home was one of the closest to the gates and walls, this forced her to leave and go into the open. She gathered what she needed from her shed-like house, knowing it would not remain. She carried a bow, quiver along with two curved daggers. When she exited the building the Drakin had passed it, but not by far and the Orcs now threatened her with a kudos rider. He ran toward her and she had nowhere to go. She would be trampled unless she did something but she could not, her rucksack had gotten caught in the doorway of her home. She couldn't remove it from the door and struggled to sling it off her shoulder, but when she looked up the beast was only a few steps from her. Time seemed to slow around her as the ugly beast made its way toward her, she had to make her decision.

Kunia would sense the girl behind him and a few of his men turning around would shout to the orc "STOP! do not kill that person!" He grimaced thinking there was no way she was going to get away from the Kodo in time before it trampled her.
